LUMCON Releases 2015 Hypoxia Update:
On August 4, 2015, Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) issued a press release with a summary addressing 2015’s hypoxic findings in the northern Gulf of Mexico. According to the summary, “This year’s ‘Dead Zone” is the size of Connecticut and Rhode combined, and is the 11th largest in size since the area has been mapped beginning in 1985. It is 28 percent larger than in 2014.” The full press release can be found here. Abstracts Due for 2016 GoM Oil Spill Conference:
The 2016 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference (Feb 1-4, 2016; Tampa, FL) is now accepting abstracts. The theme for the 2016 conference is “One Gulf: healthy ecosystems, healthy communities.” Details on the conference sessions can be found here. Deadline for submittal is September 18, 2015.
Tri-international and International Marine Conferences November 2015
The Tri-international Initiative for Marine Research and Conservation in the Gulf of Mexico and Western Caribbean conference will be held November 13 & 14, 2015. The 10th Biannual International Marine and Coastal Science Conference will be held in November 16-20, 2015. Both will be held in Havana, Cuba
