GOMURC workshop on Oil Pollution Act on February 5

Posted by on in Gulf Events

GOMURC will coordinate a workshop on February 5, 1-5pm, during the GOMOSES Conference in New Orleans, entitled, "Examining the 1990 Oil Pollution Act to improve the governmental and scientific response to future oil spill events." Our purpose is to capture lessons learned from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill (DHOS) that can be used to improve OPA when the opportunity arises. The workshop summary is located  here

Panelists and audience feedback will address three objectives: 1) Educate participants about OPA history and intent; 2) What are the priority science and research needs for responding to a spill like DHOS and how did OPA succeed or fail to address these needs?; and 3) What are longer term legal and social issues that may be improved in OPA?

The workshop will be held at the Hyatt Regency, New Orleans, LA, Celestin F Room.  Attendance is open and you DO NOT have to register for the conference to attend. We hope to see you there!
