The Environmental Law Institute (ELI) is hosting a public information webinar with invited speakers entitled "the impact of recent ocean management decisions of the Trump administration." Register today for July 23rd event.

A team of scientists and students at the University of South Florida published an article, "Embracing Advocacy in Science" in the journal Fisheries. As stated in the abstract, "a perception remains that scientists cannot be objective and credible while also advocating a position that may inform or impact decision making. We counter this notion and make the case that scientists should engage in science communication and advocacy." The authors propose practical ways to serve as an advocate for science-based policy and decision-making.

From American Federation of Teachers (AFT), "If the [proposed] Republican tax plan passes, it will not be possible for many graduate students across the country to afford their education. Their [Republican-led] bill will force them to pay hundreds of dollars more in taxes by treating tuition waivers - the tuition that is waived by universities as compensation for their work as teaching and research assistants - as taxable income, a tax bill they can’t afford on the salary of a graduate assistant."

The authors were required to turn over email records and more to BP related to findings on the Deepwater Horizon blow-out flow rate (paper at http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2011/12/19/1112139108.full.pdf).
